NFL Betting - MVP Futures

The NFL MVP could be a lock this season for the NFL betting crowd if a certain quarterback can avoid another season-ending injury.
In a way Tom Brady should have won last year’s MVP because clearly he is the most valuable player to his team in the league. Without him the Patriots went from 16-0 to 11-5 and missed the playoffs. If that’s not the definition of valuable, then what is?
The only other player in the league that compares to Brady in that way is Peyton Manning. If the Colts lost Manning they’d likely miss the postseason as well, and may not even be able to equal New England’s 11-5 record from a year ago. That’s why, despite not boasting the best QB numbers in the league last season, Manning won the MVP award.
As long as both Brady and Manning are healthy this season it should be a showdown between the two of them for the MVP. The oddsmakers at BetUS clearly agree after listing Brady at +400 and Manning at +600 on the NFL odds. Both are former MVP winners; Brady won in 2007 during the Patriots’ perfect season, while Manning’s win last year was his third. He also won back-to-back in 2003 and 2004. To be fair, though, in 2003 he also shared the award with the late Steve McNair.
If the award somehow bypasses both Brady and Manning the upset favorite is Vikings running back Adrian Peterson at +900 on the NFL odds. Before Brady and Manning’s wins in ’07 and ’08 running backs had won the previous two years, with LaDainian Tomlinson winning in 2006 and Shaun Alexander winning in 2005. In fact, a QB or RB has won the award the last 22 years. Peterson has the ability to shine because in Minnesota he is the main cog of their offensive machine. It’s unlikely, or more realistically impossible, that QBs Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels are going to lead Minnesota to glory. If Peterson can lead the Vikings to a division title and a strong playoff berth he could eclipse Brady and Manning and steal the award.
